Roundtable on synergies and developments in the process of implementing the anti-counterfeiting measures in Romania

The Government Roundtable on Synergies and Developments in the Process of Implementing Anti-counterfeiting Measures in Romania was held by Ratza & ratza, under the auspices of The International Trademark Association (INTA), Eastern Europe & Central Asia Subcommittee of the Anti-counterfeiting Committee (ACC), on Friday 7TH of May at the Novotel Hotel in the center of Bucharest.

The event was attended by a large number of participants, including Judges, Prosecutors, Customs Officials, Border Police Officials, General Police Representatives and also IP Attorneys.

The main speakers were Mrs. Georgeta Mitroi - Romanian Customs, Head of Department, Direction for Supervising of Customs Operations - Office for Protection of Intellectual Property Rights, Mrs. Monica Pop - Chief Prosecutor, Service for the coordination of Public Ministry activity in IPR field - Romanian Public Ministry - Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, Mrs. Georgeta Stegaru - Judge with the Bucharest Court of Appeals, Mr. Daniel Ene - Romanian Border Police and Mr. Marian Ionita - Romanian General Police.

The moderator of the discussions was Mr. Michael Andrew Enache - INTA ACC Member, IP Attorney - Partner, Ratza & ratza.

As the title of the roundtable suggests, the discussions were directed towards the improvement of the collaboration between all the authorities involved in the fight against counterfeiting.

The emphasis was on the recent amendments of the Council Regulation (EC) No 1383/2003 of 22 July 2003 concerning customs action against goods suspected of infringing certain intellectual property rights and the measures to be taken against goods found to have infringed such rights as well as on the Trademarks Law recent amendments which will have an important impact on all the involved parties.

The conclusions of the roundtable were positively received by all the participants and served as a very efficient de facto tool for better promoting the cooperation between government and industry to advance protection against counterfeiting.
